Through the years thousands have flocked to the event, which has become hugely popular with runners and walkers of all skill levels. The relatively flat, certified course winds through beautiful Narragansett and adds to the fun filled day.
If the fresh fruits and flora aren't enough to awaken your senses, bring your children by to experience some of the free activities such as Face Painting and the Auburn Library storytelling time. There is something to offer for every age and every budget, as you support your local community.
Opening day festivities also include performances by the Kristina Isabelle Dance Company (at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) presenting "Uneven Tango," an unique contemporary dance presentaion that features stilt and trapeze acts.
Racers need to check in by 6pm but if the runner registers before July 3, 2008 they will receive a ChampionChip that will automatically log their run times for them. For a donation of $10 you will get a dinner wristband that will include hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon, Chips, potato salad, cookies. Wheelchair applicants are accepted. The race will officially start at 7pm. Bring your bathing suit for an after the race pool party.
When someone wants to feel pretty, you'll find that flowers are a great place to start, so look at flower forms. Look at the real shapes behind the flower and figure out how to transfer just the basic shapes to skin.
Come to the zoo and see the new spring babies and all your regular favorite creatures and then visit the gardens for some Easter fun. Bring your basket or buy one at the Zoo and jump around to candy stations throughout our blooming gardens. Hop on down to the children's Treehouse to hunt for eggs for prizes or create a bunny craft. It's springtime fun for the whole family!
The next thing you need are a couple of brushes. A really fine one and a medium one will do fine. I rarely use more then three brushes. Make sure the bristles are synthetic, not natural. Natural bristles can be a little scratchy on little faces.
For kids who love to feel all grown up and get the rest and relaxation that mommy and daddy indulge in, a spa themed birthday party is a great suggestion. You can help the kids make their own safe and easy face masks out of mashed banana and oatmeal. Slice some cucumbers to put on their eyes and let the guests come to the party in bathrobes (with clothes underneath, preferably). Don't forget to light some scented candles (chocolate or peppermint).
You can make your mask from black tights or panty-hose. Use the foot-end, cutting far enough up the leg so the mask will cover your head and neck. There's usually no need to cut eye or mouth holes, as this will only make the hose run. Use your fabric paints to create a spiderweb design on the mask. Make sure all fabric paint has dried thoroughly before putting the costume on.
